Registering with CIMA
The first thing you should do is to register with CIMA. To become a student you can register online on CIMA's website.
In order to register with CIMA you should:
-
Comply with CIMA's entry requirements.
-
Apply for exemptions at the same time as registering as a student (if applicable). If any of the subjects in the syllabus has been covered in sufficient depth by a similar examination which you have already passed you will be granted exemptions.
-
Register as a student by completing the relevant forms and paying the registration fee either online or by contacting the CIMA offices.
After registering with CIMA you will be sent information regarding examination entry. You can now complete the examination entry online always making sure you do not miss the examination entry dates.
Registering with BPP does not register you with CIMA.
Applying for exemptions
CIMA does offer you exemptions, depending upon your experience and educational background. For example, if you hold an accountancy or business related degree, it is likely you will be exempt from some or all of the CIMA Certificate examinations.
You may be entitled to an exemption from CIMA if you:
-
Are a graduate and have successfully completed a qualification at degree or postgraduate level;
-
Are an AAT student or member;
-
Have completed the Open University Certificate in Accounting;
-
Have completed, or am currently studying, a professional qualification.
Please click here for more information about exemptions.
You can also apply for exemptions after becoming a CIMA student if you acquire new qualification certificates that are relevant.
Sometimes it may not be in your best interest to apply for, or to accept, exemptions. It will depend on how you feel about studying, how long it is since you last studied, and how confident you are with the subject material. You should bear in mind that the higher level papers will rely on information from the lower stages of the qualification.
If you are awarded an exemption the CIMA will charge you a fee equal to the exam fee as if you had taken the exam.
