 The CFA® syllabus

Every year the CFA®; Program releases Learning Outcome Statements (LOS) which say what is on the exams. Questions are based on ten major subject areas:
  • Ethical and professional standards
  • Quantitative methods
  • Economics
  • Financial reporting and analysis
  • Corporate finance
  • Equity investments
  • Fixed income
  • Derivatives
  • Alternative investments
  • Portfolio management and wealth planning 

When you sign up for the CFA® Program, you become a candidate. As a candidate, you:
  • Study for three exams using an assigned curriculum
  • Take the three levels of the exams sequentially

 

If you pass all three exams, meet the professional and ethical requirements, and become a regular member of CFA® Institute, you become a CFA® charterholder
